The NBA Finals: Everything You Need to Know

The NBA Finals are one of the most highly anticipated sports events of the year, and here's what to know ahead of time!

The NBA Finals are one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, and they always promise to be full of excitement. There has been a trend in recent years that a variety of teams make it this far into the season, meaning one or two teams have not dominated the league since the days of the 2010’s Golden State Warriors dynasty.

Let’s take a dive into everything you need to know ahead of the NBA Finals.

Playoff Format

The NBA Playoffs start every year in April, and to start, teams play in their separate conferences – Eastern and Western. The top eight teams from each conference are placed into a tournament bracket, with the top teams facing the lowest teams. Each match up plays a best of seven series, with the winner moving on to the next round.

The first three rounds of the NBA playoffs stay within the Eastern and Western conferences, culminating in the Conference Finals. The two teams that win the Conference Finals then move on to the NBA Finals.

Like in other sports leagues, awards are given to the winners of the Conference Finals as well. An MVP award is also given to the player who performed best throughout that singular series. While these are important, the real competition starts when we get to the NBA Finals.

The NBA Finals: Survival of the Fittest

By the time teams get to the NBA Finals, it is June – they have been playing basically non-stop since October. The NBA season itself is gruelling enough, but teams seems to get a burst of energy heading into the postseason. Yet, two months later, and that energy may be fading.

Injuries become more common, fatigue is setting into the body, but the stakes are higher than every. This creates a pressure cooker of a situation for teams, players, and coaches. It’s rare to get this far, and it feels like it would hurt even more getting so far and failing so close to the championship.

Safe to say, players need to be tough in the NBA Finals. They need to stay together as a team, shut out the outside noise, and focus on the goal.

Betting on the NBA Finals

Most betting aspects of the NBA Finals are similar to regular season basketball. You can bet on individual game results, point totals, spreads, player props, and everything else you’d bet on in a normal basketball game.

The NBA Finals also present a whole new slate of betting categories as well. The series presents the opportunity for a player to win yet another MVP award, which is something you can place your wagers on. You can also bet on how many games the series will take, who will win each game, and who will win the series.

Anything can happen in the Finals – you have the best two teams, plus the two teams who have been resilient enough to get through the playoffs thus far. It’s usually a long series, a battle, and a test of who can overcome the ultimate challenge.

This is why it’s important to make smart bets, to make sure you do your research, and not get caught up in the big moments. Usually the first few games aren’t truly indicative of how the series will go, or players have off games, and it’s important to know your stuff!

Either way the series goes, it ends up being the most exciting basketball event of the entire year!
