What are prop bets, and how do they work?

When you make a prop bet you don't bet on a team to win the game. Instead, you bet on specific events happening during a game, season, or series—without focusing on who actually wins or loses.

"Prop bet" stands for propositional and these bets are typically presented as simple yes-or-no or A-or-B options.

For example:

  • Will Jayson Tatum score more or less than 24.5 points?
  • What will the first play of the game be: a pass, a sack, or an interception?

One way to think of prop bets is putting money on on smaller moments within the game rather than the final result. I personally love props because you don't have to finish watching the whole game :-)

Super Bowl props

During Super Bowl sportsbooks go all out with their prop offerings

You can find some pretty creative and entertaining props pop up during the big game, like How long will the National Anthem take? Over/Under 2 minutes; What color will the Gatorade be when dumped on the winning coach? and so on.

These bets are perfect for you if you're a casual fan who wants to have some fun but enjoy the Super Bowl-watching party at the same time. (In other words, you don't have the be glued to the TV throughout the whole game.)

Tips for making the most of prop bets

  • Start small and focus on props that align with your knowledge of the game or players.
  • Look for props where you think the odds might be off—this is where research can pay off.
  • Don’t overcomplicate it; prop bets are meant to be a fun addition to your betting experience.

If you’re ready to give prop bets a try, don’t forget to share your experiences in our community.
