If you are looking for an alternative to the traditional moneyline or spread bet that we’ve covered so far, props might be for you.
In this video, we’ll look at what prop bets are and how they work.
A prop, or propositional bet, allows you to bet within a game, series, or season on specific events. However, these events don’t include the actual game itself.
Prop bets are typically presented as yes-or-no, A-or-B.
For instance, Will Jayson Tatum score more or less than 24.5 points? You choose: YES, or NO.
Just as you do with an Over/Under bet, you can choose which outcome will happen to an individual player.
If you’ve heard of a prop bet before, it’s likely thanks to the Super Bowl.
For a few events per year, sportsbooks offer crazy props.
For example:
- Over/Under 2 minutes for the National Anthem
- Color will the Gatorade be that’s dumped on the winning coach
- First play of the game: pass, sack, or interception
- Player to score the first touchdown
Prop bets are a ton of fun but sharps or pro bettors will tell you that prop bets are just a way to take money from casual fans. It’s up to you to decide which type of bet that suits you the best.
Most sportsbooks spend their time on actual game lines and spreads, so there is always value to be found when hunting for a great prop.
