Wyoming is among the states that have legalized sports betting and, taking after Tennessee’s model, all sports betting in Wyoming must be done online.

Best online sportsbooks

Wyoming is one of only two states in the United States to adopt an online-only sports betting model. This means that you can bet from anywhere within state lines.

Top operators like BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel are already active in the state, with potential for additional operators in the future.

A brief history of sports betting in Wyoming

Wyoming offers limited gaming options through Native American tribal casinos. The state legislature’s push to legalize sports betting was driven by the potential for increased revenue.

In 2020, two bills to legalize sports betting were introduced but narrowly failed. Undeterred, lawmakers tried again in 2021.

Due to the absence of commercial casinos, the focus shifted to creating an online-only sports betting market. This strategy allowed Wyoming to establish a regulated industry efficiently.

In 2020, Wyoming introduced two bills, HB 225 and HB 334, aimed at legalizing sports betting. Both came close to passing, falling just a few votes short. Building on this momentum, House Bill 133 was introduced in 2021, initially failing but later passing after reconsideration.

Governor Mark Gordon signed the bill into law in April 2021, and the Wyoming Gaming Commission (WGC) was tasked with overseeing the industry. The WGC quickly established regulations, leading to the launch of legal sports betting in September 2021.

There are no major professional sports teams in Wyoming  but the proximity to Colorado makes Denver-based teams like the Broncos (NFL), Nuggets (NBA), Rockies (MLB), and Avalanche (NHL) popular among bettors here.

With no restrictions on college sports betting, fans gain more wagering opportunities and can bet on teams from neighboring states, broadening their options.

The future of sports betting in Wyoming

Wyoming’s sports betting scene isn’t expected to grow much, but a few more operators might join in. The online-only setup, backed by big industry names, keeps things competitive and gives bettors solid options.

Even with a small population, Wyoming has shown that legal sports betting works. Just keep in mind—everything happens online since there are no retail sportsbooks, and none are in the works.
