A fascinating study was done by the NCAA to look into sports betting activities. The report was released in April and it included so much information about who is betting, when they are betting, what they are betting on, as well as many other trends that were found.
Here at BettingLadies.com, we combed through the report carefully to see what it said about the great women who have taken the betting world by storm. Let’s dive into it!
To begin, it’s essential to know about the key findings, but we must also look at who the study was made up of.
How the survey was conducted
To participate in this survey, respondents must have been between the ages of 18 and 22, and must have lived in the United States. 3,527 responses were received from individuals collectively residing in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. An important subpopulation of interest is those who are pursuing higher education degrees; 1,702 responses were received from individuals collectively studying at institutions located in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
This survey was fielded from April 18 to April 25, 2023. Potential respondents were solicited from the participant pool of a national online panel using stratified random sampling.
Key findings
Respondents were young people in the U.S., that were asked questions during the span of one week. While it may not be a perfect representation, it will give us a pretty good idea of who is betting during the NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs, and right before the NFL draft.
According to the study, 51% of women have engaged in sports betting activities. That is compared to 2/3 of men who have engaged in some sort of sports betting.
When it comes to the frequency of betting, women seem to be much wiser with their bets and careful in choosing what they will wager on. While 33% of men will bet a few times a month with frequency, only 20% of women reported that they wagered multiple times a month.
Here is what we found most interesting of all! Women seemed to be revolutionizing the betting sphere. They are taking advantage of live odds and waiting to see where they can pounce for value. Here is what the study reported:
An important population of live in-game bettors are women, with 64% of female bettors having placed this type of bet. Women place live in-game bets at a relatively higher rate than men, and are comparatively less likely to engage in traditional forms of betting.
On top of that, this study really indicated just how important women are as it relates to the future of betting. As companies and sportsbooks look to grow their businesses, targeting and appealing to the female crowd will be of the utmost importance.
According to another study conducted by GWS, there has been a steady increase of women sports bettor over the last 4 years, and, we believe, that this is unlikely to change:
While men are still more likely to engage in every type of sports betting activity than women, 18 to 22-year-old women now represent an important betting population, with a 51% majority of women having taken part in betting activities and 25% of women engaging in betting activities at least monthly.
This is why BettingLadies.com exist. As we have said before, women bet on sports too, and now we have a place to connect.
