Fun fact about Kansas sports betting

In Kansas, you can bet on sports both online and in person.

The number of available sportsbooks is expected to increase in the coming years. Currently, you can choose from six online sportsbooks, but up to 12 may eventually be available, as each of the four state-regulated casinos can apply for three online sportsbook licenses.

These are the betting apps we recommend here at BettingLadies.com.

Retail sports betting locations in Kansas

Though online sports betting is the preferred method for most our community members, there are still four state-regulated casinos that offer in-person betting.

Frankly, I like both so if you prefer hanging out with others who have similar interests, head over to one of these locations

Casino Address
Boot Hill Casino & Resort (DraftKings Sportsbook) 4000 W Comanche St, Dodge City, KS 67801
Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway (Barstool transitioning to ESPN Bet) 777 Hollywood Casino Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66111

ℹ️The sportsbook at Hollywood Casino is currently transitioning from Barstool to ESPN Bet.

Some Native American casinos in Kansas also offer sports betting, but they operate under separate regulations from these four state-approved locations.

Regulations and rules for sports betting in Kansas

Some quick facts about Kansas sports betting.

First, it's regulated by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission and the Kansas Lottery,

Second, you need to be 21 years or older, and betting is open to both residents and visitors as long as your are physically within state lines.

Third, you can bet on in-state college teams, unlike some states (we're looking at you Colorado) that restrict college sports betting. Betting on esports is still prohibited, though that could change in the future as industry trends evolve - we'll just have to wait and see.

Unsurprisingly, The Kansas City Chiefs are the most popular team in the state, and with their recent Super Bowl success, betting on the Chiefs has increased.

Chiefs are not the only team in Kansas. The MLB team Kansas City Royals seem to maintain a pretty passionate fanbase despite recent struggles. The Jayhawks and Wildcats drive college basketball betting, especially during March Madness.

For NBA and NHL betting, Kansas bettors often turn to neighboring states like Colorado and Missouri for teams to follow.

Tips for first-time bettors in Kansas

Sports betting can be tricky at first, but following some simple strategies can help you make better decisions:

  • Understand odds. Learn about the bet types, including moneyline, spread, and totals, to improve your chances of making profitable wagers.
  • Start simple. Focus on a few sports or betting markets instead of placing bets on everything.
  • Use promos and bonuses. Sportsbooks often offer bonuses and promotions to new bettors—use these to your advantage.

A little bit of background

Kansas was not one of the first states to legalize sports betting after the federal ban was lifted, but lawmakers consistently worked toward legalization. Early proposals were introduced as far back as 2018, but it wasn’t until 2022 that sports betting was officially signed into law.

After years of political hurdles, Kansas lawmakers finally passed a bill that balanced the needs of the House, Senate, and gaming regulators. Governor Laura Kelly signed the bill into law in May 2022, and the first sportsbooks went live in September 2022—just in time for the NFL season.
