In Connecticut, three sportsbooks offer sports betting, both online and in retail locations: FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics.
These three betting brands have partnered with a gaming entity.
- FanDuel: Partnered with the Mohegan Tribe.
- DraftKings: the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
- Fanatics: Connecticut Lottery, operating both online and at a few retail locations.
There are 15 off-track betting locations available. Now, the Connecticut Lottery is expected to expand retail sports betting as it finalizes operations with Fanatics (you can read about that here).
Currently, the two most popular retail locations are Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.

Rules and regulations for legal sports betting in Connecticut
To bet legally in Connecticut, you must be at least 21 years old. While you don't have to live in CT, you must at least be physically located within state borders when placing a wager. You can bet on the major sports and leagues, as well as international competitions (as long as they are not too small).
Betting on in-state college teams is prohibited unless they are competing in a tournament. This rule applies only to Connecticut-based teams; betting on other collegiate sporting events is allowed (so at least we have that!).

With no professional sports teams, Connecticut sports fans typically best on teams from neighboring states.

- MLB: Connecticut is split between Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees fans, two of the most historic teams in baseball.
- NBA & NHL: The Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Knicks are popular picks for basketball bettors, while Boston Bruins and New York Rangers lead NHL betting action.
- College basketball: The UConn Huskies men’s and women’s teams are major draws, particularly during March Madness. However, due to state laws, you can only bet on in-state college teams when they are playing in a tournament.

How Connecticut introduced sports betting
If you're not interested how betting was introduced to CT you can skip this section.
The background here is that Connecticut’s two tribal gaming authorities—the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Mohegan Tribe—got exclusive rights over most gaming in the state. That said, the Connecticut Lottery was granted permission to operate sports betting, leading to a three-operator model that is unique to CT.
The road to legalization began with Public Act 17-209, which laid the groundwork for future gambling expansion. While several bills failed between 2018 and 2020, the turning point came in 2021, when the state reached a gaming compact agreement with the tribes. This allowed the Connecticut Lottery to enter the sports betting market alongside FanDuel and DraftKings.
Connecticut launched online and retail sports betting in October 2021, quickly surpassing $1 billion in handle (how much money people bet) within nine months. While activity has leveled off somewhat, the state remains an important player in the New England sports betting market.
